I’ve always thought this ending was way too sad to be children’s story. When I read it as a boy, I asked my mom why did she have to die, it just wasn’t fair. She sacrificed herself for the Prince. It bothered me for a very long time, thinking about that little mermaid. Way too complex a story for little kids.

They would’ve saved so much money if they just would’ve hired a person like this woman, singing the actual song underwater, this would’ve kill the box office on the movies. The hair, the color of it, the movements would’ve been more real. They would’ve make the whole set on a pool to shoot the whole movie or most of it.
